DETAILED PROCEDURES FOR RESIDENTIAL STATUS
FOR CHINESE CITIZENS (AS OF JULY 2013)

1. We are able to obtain a residential permit for nationals of the People's Republic of China when they come out to Turkey with a normal 2-3 month Tourist entry visa.
2. The initial residential status provided is only for 6 months.
3. With this residential status they are given a Turkish Republic I.D. number.
4. During their initial stay if they acquire a property in Turkey, they need to return back to China and apply to the Turkish Embassy office for a long term stay residential visa by showing the Embassy the title deed of their property in Turkey.
5. 3 months after leaving Turkey they need to return back to Turkey with a residential visa stamp in their passports and on arrival we obtain for them a one year residential permit.
6. At the end of the one year period this is renewed for 3 years followed by 5 years and during this time they can make an application to become a Turkish Citizen.

Step by step procedures and costs;

1. When they come out to Turkey with a normal Tourist visa we obtain for them a 6 month residential permit with a property rental contract which we will prepare and this residential permit will give them a temporary Turkish I.D. number .
2. They acquire a property during their first visit to Turkey and return back to China to make an application with the Turkish Embassy office for a long stay residential visa by producing to them the copy of their title deed.
3. They return back to Turkey 3 months after leaving Turkey and we obtain for them a 1 year residential permit.
4. At the end of the 1 year period we renew it for 3 years.
5. At the end of the 4 years we renew it for 5 years.
6. They will need to spend a minimum of two weeks in Marmaris to allow us time to get the residential passbook.

The costs for residential permits are as follows:
(Please note these are current costs and are subject to increase as taxes are increased in Turkey at the beginning of each year in line with inflation);

DURATION LEVY + RESIDENTIAL PASSBOOK FEE

• 6 Month $50USD + 200TL + 300TL
• 1 Year $85USD + 300TL
• 3 Year $205 USD + 300TL
• 5 Year $325 USD + 300TL

Please note there will be a fee for the passbook if the passbook pages are full at the end of the 3 year period.

After staying in Turkey for 5 consecutive years they are entitled to apply for Turkish Citizenship. The prerequisites for Turkish Citizenship are as follows;

• Be over the age of consent in your own country (typically 18 years of age)
• Have lived in Turkey for at least the last five years without interruption, although periods of up to six months out of the country are allowed without damaging your residence permit
• Intend to settle in Turkey and be able to prove this with action.  For example, by acquiring property
• Be able to prove that you can support yourself and your family while in Turkey
• Be able to speak an acceptable level of Turkish.  This is usually a third grader level and very easily obtained with some minimal instruction.  This needs to be formally signed off by the Turkish consulate who will issue a certificate after an interview with the applicant.
• Be of 'good moral character'
• Be of general good health, without any contagious diseases that could harm the general population - a medical certificate can be obtained from any hospital.
